Multitudes of people who gathered at Lake Jarun that day had the opportunity to witness our
church’s event of the year—one of the most important moments in the lives of these
believers—as they publicly confirmed their life decision to follow Christ. Through immersion
in water during baptism, we symbolically affirm that we have been cleansed of sin and now
live a new life, leaving our old life behind. We demonstrate that we have died to sin, just as
Jesus died on the cross and was buried. And now, just as He was resurrected, we are born
again and walk in new life. This is why it is important that the person being baptized is old
enough to make this decision on their own.
Before being immersed in the water, each believer publicly declared—before God and
witnesses—that they believe in Jesus Christ as their only Savior and Redeemer and that
they are ready to follow Him as Lord from this day forward.
God’s Word says that when one sinner is saved, all of heaven rejoices. What a happy day,
what a joyful event! We all rejoiced together with them, and all of heaven celebrated with us!
